About Us
Finding Inspiration from Every Game
Leighton United Football Club was established just outside Leighton Buzzard, in the village of Tilsworth, to provide local children with facilities to learn and play football to youth league standards. Since our inception, we have continued to pursue this mission relentlessly, seeking to improve what we do and offer year on year. We are proud to partner with other local clubs, Bedfordshire FA and the local League Organisations to collectively promote and further the development of grassroots football in the Central Bedfordshire region.
We are proud of the achievements of our teams, players and coaches - all of which have added to the rich history and growing reputation of the club among the local and national footballing scene. We have had players progress through the ranks of our teams, improving every year to eventually achieve a call-up from one of the local, national or international teams, with notable examples being Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Watford, Aylesbury Town, Northampton Town, Luton Town, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and England Ladies U16 Junior Lionesses.
OUR MISSION
From the very beginning, our objective was to provide the best youth football opportunities for children to learn in a safe environment with all required facilities onsite to provide a consistently high level of coaching. Our football philosophy has been refined and optimised over more than thirty years of practical coaching experience. It provides a consistent and referenceable framework for successfully delivering youth football coaching to all age groups from u6 to u18 and into open-age (adult) football.
Our club prides itself on being a stable, modern, progressive platform for young footballers to gain experience in organised youth league competitive football. Players in LUFC teams gain from a series of stepped development cycles, which are based upon The FA's Four Corner Model for Player Development. Each cycle provides age-appropriate and relevant education and training for football skills, teamwork, and individual development - i.e. more sophisticated and complex activities are reserved for older teams to account for the ability of young players to learn and take onboard crucial concepts that require increasing levels of thinking and consideration.
Our coaches are not rewarded for winning prizes. We believe the developmental progression of their teams and players is the best measure of sustainable success.
MEET THE COMMITTEE
Like the majority of youth football clubs, Leighton United FC is managed and operated by a volunteer group of people (like all our coaching staff). This group of people hold specific posts and have specific responsibilities so that they individually and collectively provide the facilities and coordination of all club-related activities. Each role on the committee is voted upon and renewed every year at the Club's Annual General Meeting.
If you fancy doing one of the roles or helping us in some other way, please speak to a committee member to have an informal chat about what you can do to help the club.
